News Bites – July 13, 2012

Every Friday we bring you “News Bites,” a collection of links from the week about General Mills and the food industry. We also highlight content from other General Mills blogs and websites.

Notable posts about General Mills:

As we pointed out on the blog this week, General Mills held an event for investors at the New York Stock Exchange. Chairman and CEO Ken Powell conducted several media interviews during the trip to Wall Street.

Ken appeared onset with CNBC’s Squawk on the Street” in this clip, “General Mills CEO on 2013 Growth Plan.”

Also during our event, Chris O’Leary, executive vice president and chief operating officer, International, was interviewed by FOX Business News, in “General Mills Exec on International Growth.”

And, Gary Chu, president of General Mills Greater China, was with us in New York and talked with The Financial Times for their story, “China turns to frozen dumplings” (Registration may be required).

Also this week, Jerry Lynch, our chief sustainability officer, was featured in Food Technology, with “Seeding Sustainability at General Mills.”

And, Businessweek profiled Anton Vincent, president of our Baking division, in “How I Got Here: General Mills’ Anton Vincent.”

Notable posts about the food industry:

The Wall Street Journal posted “Nestlé’s Quest for Perfect Air Bubble,” which featured interesting research on air bubbles, which could improve several food products.

In “August ‘crunch time’ for supermarkets and food manufacturer suppliers,” FoodManufacture.co.uk looked at the current retail market in the UK.

Food Production Daily posted an article about a video that received a lot of attention this week. “Viral ‘Coca-Cola Bag’ video spoof dupes world media” has the details on the content of an alleged Coca-Cola video that had many people thinking was real.

Finally, Andrew Zimmern – who recently worked on a project with our Tablespoon.com site – was highlighted in The Huffington Post, in “Food Informants: A Week In The Life Of Andrew Zimmern.”

One year ago on “A Taste of General Mills”:

July 13, 2011 – “In-store influence”

My colleague Maerenn Jepsen wrote this post about the work of General Mills sales professionals across the U.S., and how they’re focused on providing the products you see at your favorite store.

Editor’s note: Is there a blog or website we should be reading and including on this weekly list?

What would you like us to write about on “A Taste of General Mills”? Is there someone we should interview, inside or outside of General Mills? Is there a topic you’d like us to cover?
