Four more firsts for Fiber One

With the recent debuts of Fiber One Soft-Baked Cookies, Fruit Flavored Snacks, Meal Bars and Protein cereals, Fiber One continues to expand.

In the case of the cookies and fruit flavored snacks, they represent entries into new market categories. The meal bars mark the first time the brand will be in the energy bar/diet nutrition section of stores, and the cereal adds a protein-enriched product to its line of breakfast products.

In all, Fiber One introduced 10 new products in the third quarter of fiscal 2014:

- Three cookies

· Two fruit flavored snacks

· Three meal bars

· Two cereals

The brand is becoming omnipresent in several food categories as the Fiber One name is stamped on more than 50 products from cereal and baking products to breads, bars and now cookies and fruit snacks.

Maria Lopez, associate marketing manager for Fiber One Snacks, says Fiber One has always brought great taste to fiber. In its nearly 30-year history, the brand has proven successful in the snack and cereal aisles.

So why not other categories?

“Fiber One is a trusted brand, and we believe we can create compelling products – whether in cereal, snack, cookie or health/nutrition aisles – that meet consumers’ evolving needs,” Maria says.

Fiber One has relied on new products for its success.

For example, the Fiber One Lemon Bar was an instant hit.

And while the brand has long been associated with health and the need to consume more fiber, it’s increasingly being chosen for taste – several of these new products held commanding edges in head-to-head taste tests with competitors.

Cookies, fruit flavored snacks

Fiber One Soft-Baked Cookies contain five grams of fiber, and come in three varieties: Chocolate Chunk, Oatmeal Raisin and Double Chocolate, says Jonathan Scearcy, associate marketing manager for the Snacks division.

The Fiber One brand is a good fit for the cookie aisle as many category shoppers are looking for delicious, healthier alternatives and not finding them in the current category.

Another breakthrough, Fiber One Fruit Flavored Snacks, represents the first fruit flavored snacks with fiber.

It became known that snack consumers – and moms – felt they and their families were lacking fiber in a treat.

Each serving of Fiber One Fruit Flavored Snacks includes three grams of fiber. The snack comes in Assorted Fruit and Mixed Berry varieties.

Meal bar, protein cereal

With the meal bar, Fiber One makes its first appearance in the nutrition bar aisle.

Fortified with 14 vitamins and minerals, the Fiber One Meal Bar relies on nuts as its first ingredient and contains 10 grams of protein, nine grams of fiber, and has up to 60 percent less sugar than major competitors in the nutrition bar aisle.

The bars come in three varieties: Chocolate Peanut Butter, Strawberry Greek Yogurt, Dark Chocolate Almond.

And, finally, the cereal added the Fiber One Protein line as demand for protein and fiber in diets continues to grow.

Since more consumers want to start their day with protein, the timing was right to introduce Fiber One Protein cereal, a lightly sweetened granola with 10 grams of protein per serving when served with milk, and in Maple Brown Sugar and Cranberry Almond varieties.

I cannot find the Fiber One Soft Baked Cookie in the stores no longer. We all loved them. Why did General Mills stop producing this product.

We noticed that as well. We are very unhappy.

I can’t find the double chocolate soft baked cookies anywhere. My grandson loves them.
